Since our experiences
live not just in our minds but in our bodies, we must engage all
systems involved in conditioning, learning, and memory if we want to
produce long-lasting changes in how we feel, think, and act. Traditional
psychotherapy addresses the entity of the "mind" through verbal
discourse. Most individuals seeking therapy, in one form or another, are
searching for a new experience of themselves. Our holistic model
literally gets clients "moving," which serves as a behavioral
intervention positively affecting self-concept, body image, and
confidence.
In my 10+ years of counseling and rendering traditional psychotherapies, I have yet to observe changes of the magnitude that occur in the pole dance classes I teach. Profound alterations in how one experiences and views her body are transformed for women of all shapes, ages, and ability levels. Dr. Lori Huett is a behavioral health specialist and former dancer with the NYC Joffrey Ballet. With over 24 years of professional dance training and credentials in clinical and counseling psychology, she brings an effective integration of existential philosophy, behavioral-based learning, and principles of anatomy into her practice.

Lori A Huett's groupsDancing with Parkinson's
In this series, participants explore movement in ways that are
stimulating, creative, and enjoyable. By using rhythm and muscle memory
as therapeutic tools, individuals with Parkinson's improve their
mobility, efficiency of movement, and quality of life off the dance
floor, while enjoying a new means of artistic expression within a
supportive community of fellow dancers, often struggling with similar
obstacles. Classes consist of meditation and other "centering"
exercises, seated lyrical warm-ups, and across-the-floor sequences.
Elements of a variety of dance styles are explored in a positive
environment that supports the mind-body connection in healing.

Body Confidence & Self Esteem through Pole Dancing
Distinct from a psychotherapy milieu, our focus is strictly on
movement and facilitating physical and emotional expression through
dancing; which, in particular, provides an empowering and safe way for
women to connect with their emotions, bodies, inner strength and
creativity.
Pole dancing is unique in that it transcends all forms and styles, which
allows for creative expression. Diminutive esteem and confidence are
addressed by learning to "take up more space," "walk prouder," and move
in a sensuous feminine way that powerfully connects women to the beauty
of their bodies.
Groups consist of women of all ages, shapes, and abilities.
